On Friday we finished our first summative assessment (test) of the year. Only 11 more to go :-) I will do my best to have these graded and back to students by mid week. One area I'm already seeing as an opportunity (and this was on the Smart Board during the test) is following a list of steps to ensure maximum credit. If a student receives a grade of 76 or below (this is a D or below), then they will have the opportunity to complete a re-do. I have posted the required form that must be filled out prior to a re-do in the Links tab, or you may click here. The form ensures the student has reflected on why they received the grade they did and what they did to improve their understanding. The re-do form will require a parent/guardian signature as well.
This week we will cover Lessons 11 - 15 which will build upon student's existing knowledge of ratio tables and ratio reasoning to compute unit rates. The problems students will encounter will increase in complexity and challenge students to use various problem solving strategies. Many of the scenarios in these next few lessons will require students to use their knowledge of fractions (dividing, multiplying and simplifying) to solve multi-step problems. We have reviewed these skills in some of our warm-up exercises during class already this year. However, if students need additional practice with fractions, click here for a great online resource. If you have any questions/concerns, please reach out! Don't forget about our Open House on Saturday, 9/30 from 9 am - 12 pm. |
