REMINDER: Field trip forms for Wrinkle in Time movie on 3/12 are due this FRIDAY, 2/23! Cost is $15 or $10 if you already paid $5 for the basketball trip that we did not get to go on. **UPDATE** Here is a copy of the End of Module 3 Study Guide for classes 1 & 2. This has not yet been assigned, but some students wanted to get a head start. Test will be early next week. We have covered all the topics except volume in class 1. We will continue to reinforce these concepts in class this week. This week we are starting off with not only a short week, but also with benchmark testing for RTI. This is mandatory for all students at the beginning, middle and end of the year. On Wednesday we will resume normal classes. Classes 1 and 2 will begin by finishing their surface area group discovery projects. This was a quick, hands-on activity that allowed students to discover more about surface area using 3-D unit cubes. Below are a few examples of some of the student's work. The poster on the left also shows what is called a "net", or a flattened view of a 3-D shape. These classes will begin learning more about volume this week and compare and contrast the two types of measurements. We have likened surface area to determining how much wrapping paper would be required to cover a box, for example, and volume to the amount of liquid that would fill an object. Since it is a short week, we will not get to our End of Mod 3 test until next week. Class 3 will continue learning about inequalities and how they are similar to solving equations. We will also be graphing these on number lines. There will most likely be a quiz towards the end of the week on this topic. Any of the below supplies that you could send in with your student would be greatly appreciated! Cold/flu season is taking its toll and tissues/sanitizer are especially running low.
Don't forget, peer tutoring is available each Friday during elective for any student that would like a little extra help on any topic. Students must take the initiative to sign up each week that they would like to attend. The sign up sheets are in my room (as well as Mr. Persinger's) and just require the student's name and specific topic they need help on. I am happy to announce that the school will be providing calculators for our students to use in the classroom, however I am not sure when they will be arriving. They are the TI-30XA models, which offer a bit more than the basic four function calculator and will be perfect for what students in 7th grade need. Until these arrive, however, please ensure students have a calculator that they can bring with them to math class. Thank you and have a fantastic week! |
