This week is a short week and sure to fly by! Classes 1 and 2 are are starting out the week finishing up Lesson 8 and gaining additional practice solving real-world problems using both algebraic and arithmetic solutions (equations and tape diagrams, respectively). Towards the end of the week we will be getting into a bit of geometry talking about types of angles and using facts about these angles to set up and solve equations. Students will be learning about vertical, complementary, supplementary and adjacent angles. We will also be solving inequalities and graphing these on a number line. We are most likely looking at a notebook quiz the end of the week (Thurs?) and a Mid Module test the following week (week of 1/22).
Class 3 is finishing up Lesson 4 and continuing to practice combining like terms and solving equations relating to real-world situations. They may also get to a bit of geometry at the end of the week using knowledge of angles to solve equations. Last week during warm-ups in Class 3, we had a question about average and I noticed a lot of students are struggling understanding what it means to find an average. Here is a video that actually discusses mean along with median and mode that I think students may find helpful. Here is another video. If anyone could use some extra help with combining like terms, Here is a nice review video. Click here for another one. Here is a helpful video on the basics of solving equations. Attention Math League students - please note new date for meet that was rescheduled due to snow day is Wed. 1/31 at Postlethwait MS. I've also been asked a few times about progress reports - they will go home with students in two weeks (Thurs 2/1). Have a great week! |
