On Friday, 3/20, I will be hosting two Zoom meetings (see link and code below) at 9:00 and 4:00. The purpose of these will be for all of us to gain more practice with this virtual meeting tool and just to check in with each other and say hi. I may even try a read aloud with one of the Sir Cumference books! Reminder, office hours begin next week to answer any questions students may have in regards to the work that has been posted in Schoology.
Click HERE for Eureka Math videos that have just been posted. More to be posted daily. I know there are a multitude of resources out there, especially now, that can make it difficult to know which ones to choose for your students to gain extra practice. Variety does help, as students may get bored using the same resources. One interactive site that I've found that your student might want to try out for additional practice is braingenie.com. Students can create free accounts and join our virtual class using the code "gh0xl2gl" (please note that it is a zero, not an o and those are "L"s not ones). I have assigned some goals which are just general guidelines and not required (click on Goals on the left side of the screen under the avatar). Students can practice and watch videos to improve their understanding of selected content. The dashboard tracks progress and usage as well. Please also check out the new "PCA Updates on the COVID-19 Situation" button on the PCA home page for updated information. I miss all my students and hope that everyone is doing well! Again, please reach out with any questions! UPDATE AS OF MONDAY 3/16: Hi everyone! I wanted to post an update now that we've had a chance to meet with our Dean of Academics (Mrs. Silcox) to ensure we have a comprehensive plan moving forward in regards to academics. The 7th grade team has compiled THIS document to serve as a "one-stop shop" for each of the four main content areas (ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies). Please review and reach out to respective teachers with any specific questions you may have. Teachers will be putting together packets for any students who have indicated they do NOT have access to a computer with internet. These paper copies will be delivered to homes on Friday, 3/20. There will be one required day of academic instruction to help make up for what we are missing (there are a total of 5 to be made up, however three will be made up during Spring Break and the other will be added on to the end of the year...click HERE for the updated school calendar). For 7th grade math, I will be utilizing Schoology to share assignments (both those recommended for extra practice as well as the one day of mandatory assignments). Students should log into Schoology as soon as they are able so that they can view the learning calendar and resources available. Please note, I have listed resources under specific days, but they do NOT need to be completed on those days. The only required day is what I have posted under Friday, 3/27. Next week, all teachers will be offering one hour of virtual office hours per day (teachers may use Zoom or a conference call). I will be using Zoom. I am new to this, but was able to figure this out with a little practice. My code is posted in Schoology. As of now, I have decided to split up times between morning and late afternoon to help accommodate as many as possible. You only need to conference in if you have questions. Please note, times are subject to change and I will communicate accordingly. Mon 3/23: 9-9:30 and 4-4:30 Tues 3/24: 9-9:30 and 4-4:30 Wed 3/25: 9-9:30 and 4-4:30 Thurs 3/26: 9-9:30 and 4-4:30 Fri 3/27: 9-9:30 and 4-4:30 Students may also log into Dreambox to work on skills. School URL: https://play.dreambox.com/login/bhws/wn7p School Code: bhws/wn7p Classroom Code: 54387 Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Thank you! UPDATE AS OF SATURDAY 3/14: Hello, I hope everyone is doing well and being safe. I've already had several inquiries regarding what students can do to ensure they remain engaged academically over these two weeks. Our school admin team is finalizing a comprehensive plan and teachers will be sending out information once that plan has been decided on. Until that point, I will not be sending out any specific information other than to please use the resources already provided on my website to keep skills sharp. We are fortunate in math since we use an online tool (Schoology) to access our student workbook. We hope to have more information available for you shortly. At this time, we are asking anyone who does NOT have a computer with internet access to send me an email or Remind message so that we can plan accordingly for those students. Greetings! Last week we began Module 5 on Statistics and Probability. This week we will begin with Lesson 3 - Chance Experiments with Equally Likely Outcomes. We talked about the Probability Scale which ranges from 0 - 1 or 0% - 100%. 0 or 0% represents impossible events, while 1 or 100% represents certain events. Flipping a coin and getting heads, for example would represent an Equally Likely outcome (0.5 or 50%). Last week we also practiced using spinners to generate data from which to estimate probabilities. We will talk more about probability devices that can be used to mimic real-world scenarios such as playing cards, number cubes, coins etc. To be covered this week... Lesson 3 & 4 - Chance Experiments with Equally Likely Outcomes Lesson 5 - Chance Experiments with Outcomes That Are Not Equally Likely Lesson 6 - Using Tree Diagrams to Represent a Sample Space HERE is a great video overview of Probability that students can view to reinforce what we are learning in class. A few other "basics" of probability that will be important for students to learn... Experimental vs Theoretical Probability (click here for another explanation) What is an Outcome? Sample Space? and other definitions How to determine Probability using "or" & "and" What is a Tree Diagram? This week's Quizizz code is 741857. It is a review of percents. Don't forget to complete by Thursday night! Be well and stay safe!
