Only 2 more weeks to go before Christmas break! Time is flying by! This week students will finish up their End of Module 3 tests and we will begin Module 1 - Ratios & Proportional Relationships. We will learn about how a unit rate differs from a rate and a ratio, what makes a relationship between two quantities proportional and how we can use tables, equations and graphs to represent proportional relationships. Some examples of rates include:
120 miles per 2 hours $15 per 5 pounds Calculating unit rates has many useful real-world applications. Many times items at the store will have different prices for different quantities and it can be difficult to determine which one is the better buy. For example, $9.99/12 rolls or $12.99/16 rolls. However, if you calculate the unit rate you will know the cost per one roll and can then compare the two to see which is less expensive. The constant of proportionality is another very important term we will talk about as well. If two quantities are proportional to each other, they have a ratio between them that never changes. For example, 60 miles per 1 hour, 120 miles per 2 hours, 180 per 3 hours etc. The constant is 60. HERE is the parent newsletter for Module 1 Topic A if you would like additional information. Please note there is NO Quizizz for this week. This Friday, 12/13, all students who have turned in their PCA enrollment forms will earn a free N.U.T. day! Please make sure they are turned into your student's HR teacher! Have a great week everyone!
