**UPDATE** With the end of the trimester coming up, here are some extra credit opportunities! Papers must be turned in by end of day on Friday, 3/16. Click here for Class 1 and 2 Extra Credit. Click here for Class 3 Extra Credit. This week, 7th and 8th grade will begin with a field trip to see the movie, "A Wrinkle in Time". We will be gone from approximately 9:15 to 1:00 so most classes will not meet on Monday. All students going on the trip will need a bag lunch. Classes 1 and 2 will be continuing their discussion of percents, specifically percent increase and decrease, markup and markdown as well as percent error and simple interest. We may be looking at a test the end of next week for these classes. If you would like extra practice on the basics of converting between fractions, decimals and percents, here is a great resource to check out. It generates a new worksheet each time you refresh the link, is able to be customized and it comes with an answer key! Just select which options you want and then click on the "Create It" button at the bottom of the page. Converting between these three forms is a skill students should become very comfortable with. They should also be able to divide or multiply by 10 or a multiple of 10 without the use of a calculator (by moving the decimal point to the right or left, depending on the operation). Class 3 will continue their discussion of area including other shapes such as parallelograms and triangles. They will also be talking about 3-D shapes (prisms, specifically) and how to find surface area and volume. There will most likely be a notebook quiz mid-week for Class 3. If any students would like additional practice with circumference, area and other properties of circles, here is a great resource to check out. It comes with an answer key as well and a new sheet can be created each time the page is refreshed. Trimester 2 ends this Friday, with grades being due on 3/22. Please ensure your student is caught up with all their graded assignments (quizzes/tests). Don't forget - there is no school this Wednesday for students (Professional Development day for teachers)! Have a great week! |
