*UPDATE* Please click HERE to read more about what we are learning in Topic A! Hello! This month is certainly flying by! We will be having a Halloween party at the end of the day on Thurs. 10/31 after the parade. Please stay tuned for sign-up information. This week we start off with our field trip to the African American History Museum in Washington D.C. on Monday. It looks like the weather will cooperate! In class, we will be getting more practice with the distributive property, factoring and simplifying expressions by combining like terms. This will help us as we write and solve equations (using algebra). This week's Quizizz is another great way to practice this concept (as well as learn the important vocabulary associated with expressions). The code is 278252 and it is due Thurs. night. Here is a short video on the distributive property. We reviewed this a few times in Module 2 but we will get a lot more practice using this in Module 3. Here is a short review video on the commutative property. We covered this in Module 2. I also wanted to take this opportunity to outline our schedule for the year. There are 6 Eureka modules that we do our best to cover, however the first 5 are imperative to cover to ensure students are ready for their Smarter Balanced test in the spring and their Post Test. The modules we are covering (in the order in which they will be covered) include: Module 2 (Rational Numbers) 23 lessons - complete Module 3 (Expressions and Equations) 26 lessons - just started last week Module 1 (Ratios and Proportional Relationships) 22 lessons Module 4 (Percents and Proportional Relationship) 18 lessons Module 5 (Statistics and Probability) 23 lessons Module 6 (Geometry) 27 lessons Taking into account testing, review days, field trips and beginning and end of year activities, this equates to approximately one lesson per day. As you can see this is a lot to cover and unfortunately the pace is an aggressive one if we are to cover all the required material as per 7th Grade Common Core Standards. Many students seem to be struggling on review concepts such as fractions and long division. Unfortunately if students cannot perform these skills, it can make learning current material that much more difficult. That is why even if students do not have homework, it is beneficial if they can spend 15 min, for example, on Moby Max or doing another review activity (worksheet/math game) each night. I am more than happy to provide some specific suggestions if you have a particular area of concern. This past Friday, most classes also finished up episode 5/5 in the Growth Mindset video series featuring Mojo (from Class Dojo). We talked about times we may have felt like giving up and how important it is that we keep trying, even when we fail. Click here for video clip. What an awesome life lesson! Upcoming Events: Mon 10/21 - Field Trip to D.C. Fri 10/25 - No School (Teacher PD Day) Mon 10/21 - Thurs 10/24 - Book Fair in the Auditorium Thurs 10/31 - Halloween Parade (2:00) Have a great week!
