*UPDATE* Here are the answer keys for the Extra Practice worksheets that were made available in the classroom last week.
Greetings! This week we are continuing our discussion of equivalent expressions and will begin talking about steps for solving equations (and even incorporating a little geometry in the process in the form of angle relationships). Solving equations is one of the most important skills that students will use over and over again in their math career. What we have done up to this point (rational number operations, simplifying expressions) are all key to helping students be successful in this new skill. This week students will be taking a notebook quiz and most likely a quiz on simplifying expressions. If students need additional help with this skill, here are some great links: Khan Academy video Equivalent expressions with fractions video Website explaining vocabulary used in expressions Last week we completed video 3 of 5 in the Growth Mindset series. Click here to view. A few brave students shared about a time when they were afraid to ask questions and I even added a story of my own from when I was in school. We have all had those moments when we felt as if we were the only one who didn't understand. It can be difficult, but we need to remember that asking questions is how we will learn new things and it may not be as bad as it may seem! Interim grades will be going home this week in Thursday folders. Please be on the lookout! These will need to be signed and returned back to school. Have a great week! |
