**UPDATE** Once students have had a chance to work through the study guide on their own, they can view the answer key here.
**UPDATE** Here is the Mid Module 2 Study Guide if any students want to work ahead. These haven't yet been handed out in class, but we should be handing out Tues or Wed. The study guide is very similar to the Mid Module 2 test that students will be taking on Friday. Hello! This week we will wrapping up the first half of Mod 2 and getting ready for our Mid Mod test most likely on Friday. Last week we covered subtraction, multiplication and division of rational numbers and Lessons 13-15 will involve converting between fractions and decimals using equivalent fractions and long division. We will also review some of the properties of operations (i.e. Associative Property and Commutative Property) in order to help solve various expressions. It is very important that students who are struggling with the basic operations involving fractions and decimals get some extra practice. They will see many of these on the upcoming test. Some of these we have been reviewing in the spiral reviews completed in homeroom. Here is an example of a basic operation involving decimals that some students may struggle with: 148 - 7.35 Students must remember to line up the decimals when subtracting. To do this with a whole number, you must add a decimal and zeroes to the right of the decimal. In this case, 148 becomes 148.00. Finding common denominators is another area that students continue to need practice in. Calculators will not be allowed on this test (we won't be able to use calculators until at least the end of Mod 3). I will be making a study guide available at least 2 days before the test that we will review in class. The study guides are very similar to the test. On another note, if anyone is interested in competing in Math League (we have 4 competitions per school year - see Math League tab for more info), you don't necessarily have to be in the Math League elective to participate. Please see me if you have questions or would like more information. Have a great week! |
