**UPDATE** Here is the solution for a problem Classes 1 and 2 needed clarification on from class today, 5/1. *UPDATE* Be sure to check out the updated INB Pictures link for new pages. Hello! We begin state testing on Wednesday this week for the CAT (Computer Adaptive Test) portion of the Math Smarter Balanced test. The Performance Task (PT) portion will begin on Thursday 5/7. Many students have expressed that they have been completing practice questions at home (click here for link) and I am so happy to hear that! Keep up the great effort! Please ensure your student is getting plenty of rest and has a good breakfast on those days. Two hours in a testing environment can be tough for many students. Classes 1 and 2 are learning about probability trees and some have even begun working on a fun project to see the probability of making a basket. They will work in groups of 3-4 students and each take turns throwing papers into a basket. They will calculate the probability of making or missing a shot and populate these probabilities into a tree diagram to determine the probability of each outcome based on three rounds. We will then put these on posters to display and find out who our champion is! The anchor chart on the right is somewhat similar to what the students will be creating. We will do our best to get through Lessons 8 and 12 and will then be looking at the Mid Mod 5 Assessment which will be a rather short assessment. Timing is TBD depending on state testing. We may end up chunking this assessment so as not to overload students with testing during these 2 weeks. For Class 3, we are continuing our discussion of percents, most recently talking about percent increase and decrease. If students are missing the handout on page 87, they will need to copy it from a friend, my website or my notebook. Unfortunately, all the extra pre-printed copies have been taken. We will then move on to percent error, simple interest, tax, commission and fees. Here is a great video explaining further what we talked about in class on Friday (percent increase and decrease). Using our original formula of: Part = Percent * Whole The Part (or Quantity) is the amount by which a value changes and the Whole is the original amount. Interim grades are due on Wed. 5/10 and progress reports will go home on Thurs 5/17. Due to testing, there may not be as many grades as normal between now and then, but each class should have at least 1 or 2 additional. FYI - correction forms/re-tests are available for any student that scored a 76 or below on a graded assessment. There is a limit of 2 per trimester. Teachers (and students) had a great time dressing up on Friday for Decades Day (see below)! Have a great week everyone!
