Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a restful break and a chance to recharge! I am so thankful for all the thoughtful gifts and those that were able to bring in items to help celebrate the holiday on the last Friday before break. Thank you!!
As we begin the new year, I will be adding some quotes to the sidebar of my homepage, just above the Weekly Smile. Students will also be seeing and hearing these quotes in the classroom more regularly and seeing how they apply to what we are doing. Many of these quotes will embody the Growth Mindset philosophy. See Growth Mindset tab for more information. I have even added some new links/graphics. As we begin this first week of the new year, all classes will be in Module 3 - Expressions and Equations. Any students from Class 3 who have not yet finished the End of Module 2 test from before break, need to ensure they come in during workroom or after school to finish. *UPDATE - I have after school hours on Tues/Thurs from 3:45-4:45 until further notice. I will NOT be available this Thurs 1/4 due to a Math League meet. Elective is another choice, if the elective teacher approves. Students in all classes will be continuing to practice the basic concepts of solving equations. Students must set these up with a clear right and left hand side (separated by the equal sign in a straight line as they work down the page) and circle their answers at the end. Getting in the habit of organizing their work in this manner will help reduce errors tremendously! Checking work is another key step that we will continue to practice. This allows students to ensure they have the correct answer before moving on to the next problem. See the end of this post for a sampling of pictures depicting posters that classes 1 and 2 completed the last week before break. Students also completed a neat banner with each triangle displaying a unique equation solved by each student. Don't forget - we will be going on a field trip to the University of Delaware Women's basketball game on Friday. We will be back by 3:30 for normal dismissal. |
